3. House Calls
If you require a house call during normal hours, please phone in advance and the receptionist will organise a time for you. Unfortunately, for legal and insurance reasons, our staff are not permitted to make after-hours house calls.

4. Cats and Dogs
Our highly qualified and experienced veterinary and nursing staff provide a complete range of medical, surgical and other services for cats and dogs. The full range of treatment options and costs will be explained to you so that you may make the best choice for you and your pet.

5. Birds

6. Rabbits, mice, guinea pigs and ferrets.
Our veterinarians are experienced in treating Ferrets, Rabbits, Guinea pigs, Rats and Mice. We provide medical services, surgical and desexing services, nutritional and management advice for all these pets.

7. Reptiles
Our staff are experienced in treating turtles, lizards and snakes. We can help with disease control and prevention, nutrition, housing and parasite control.

8. Wildlife
In conjunction with the RSPCA, we will always accept sick or injured wildlife for treatment and assessment to enable them treated and passed onto qualified carers for rehabilitation.

9. General Anaesthesia
With few exceptions, all animals anaesthetised in our hospital are intubated and anaesthetised with Isoflurane gas, one of the safest anaesthetic agents currently available. All animals are fully examined and assessed by our anaesthetists, as each animal gets an individualised anaesthetic regimen. Each animal is carefully monitored by one of our veterinary nurses before, during and after anaesthesia to ensure the saftey of your pet. If your animal is over 8 years old, we generally recommend a Pre-Anaesthetic Blood Screen to ensure that they are in good health and getting the appropriate anaesthetic regime.

10. Desexing
We routinely desex cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs. In general we recommend desexing for any pet that is not being used for breeding.

Desexing is generally a day procedure but you can elect to have your pet stay overnight if you wish. On discharge, a veterinarian will carefully take you through the simple after-care requirements and answer any questions.

11. Surgery
We have a highly skilled surgical team, who provide a full range of orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery to our clients as well as a large number of local and interstate veterinary practices. Our surgeons are always available before and after surgery to discuss all treatment options, costs and after-care. We strongly believe in the use of high quality pain relief for all surgical procedures and postoperative recovery and welcome any questions and enquiries you may have in this regard.

12. Radiology
We have highly trained and experienced radiologists on our staff and offer a wide range of radiological services. X-rays are a very useful and non-invasive way of diagnosing problems in your pet. We are able to do plain X-rays and contrast X-rays such as barium swallows, intravenous pyelograms, urethrograms, myelograms etc. We can do hip and elbow X-rays for any of the Australian HD and Elbow schemes.

13. Ultrasound
We have experienced ultrasonographers available and offer a wide range of ultrasound services. Ultrasound is a sensitive and non-invasive way of diagnosing many conditions and can be used to obtain biopsies without going to surgery. We can do pregnancy ultrasounds (from 21 days), abdominal ultrasounds, cardiac ultrasounds, Polycystic Kidney Disease testing and ultrasound guided biopsy of most internal organs.

14. Endoscopy
We can perform endoscopy of the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts using both rigid and flexible endoscopes. Endoscopy can be used to take biopsies of the stomach and duodenum and the nose as well as visualise lesions in these places. It can also be used to remove foreign bodies from the oesophagus, stomach and nasal cavity, without going to major surgery.

15. Pathology Services
The hospital has a fully equipped pathology laboratory and most routine pathology and blood testing can be performed in house on the same day. This ability to rapidly reach a diagnosis is extremely important in getting your pet quick and effective treatment. For other tests, a daily courier service ensures a quick turnaround time.

16. Cancer Treatment
Until recently, surgery was the main form of cancer treatment. In the last five years we have found chemotherapy to be a very effective option for pets with cancer. The aim of chemotherapy in veterinary medicine varies from human medicine and we aim not for a cure but for extended quality of life. As such the side effects commonly associated with chemotherapy in people are rarely seen in animals. We have several staff members who are both skilled and experienced in this area and will be happy to advise you and answer any questions on all aspects of this treatment option.

17. Acupuncture
Acupuncture and other alternative therapies are becoming widely used in veterinary medicine. On staff, Dr Michael Archinal is having success in treating back problems, arthritis, lick granulomas and much more. Please contact the hospital if you want more information on this or any other alternative therapy for your pet.

18. Dentistry
Dental disease is a common and serious disease affecting dogs, cats, rabbits and rodents. Long standing dental problems can cause severe damage to the heart, kidney and other organs. If your pet is having difficulty eating, has smelly breath or the teeth aren't shiny and white, call in for a dental check up. Dental problems can be solved by a range of therapies including diet, teeth cleaning and dentistry under general anaesthetic.

19. Behaviour Problems
Behaviour problems in dogs, cats, birds and other pets are common. Dr Michael Archinal is experienced in treating behaviour problems in pets. We can help with barking, escaping, aggression, destructive behaviour, urinating and defecating in the house, feather picking and many more. If you think your pet has a behaviour problem, call the clinic and we will help you get things back on track.

20. Dermatology
Skin problems are common and often quite complex. If your pet shows signs of hairloss, itchiness, sore or inflamed areas on the coat and skin, they may need some help. Dr Michael Archinal has completed postgraduate training in dermatology, and will be glad to help with sorting out the right diagnosis in difficult skin cases. The last decade has seen many wonderful advances in the treatment of skin conditions and many convenient and effective treatment options are available.

21. Grief Counselling
If you have recently lost a pet through illness or old age you may wish to talk to one of our vets about it. Sometimes it can also be useful to discuss the dying process when a pet is in the advanced stages of illness or very old. All our vets are happy and available to talk at any time about the death of a pet and the grieving process.  We also acknowledge that it is sometimes hard to talk about these things at times.  The following link has been provided for those who may be interested:

21. Radioactive Iodine Therapy
We have recently started treating hyperthyroidism in cats with radioactive iodine. This is acknowledged to be the best treatment for this common endocrine disease of old cats.  If your cat has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism simply call and ask one of our veterinarians about this state of the art treatment.
